Request for Preceptor Credit

For Osteopathic Physicians:
Osteopathic physicians serving as preceptors in any AOA approved osteopathic medical education program may be granted Category 1-B credit. A maximum of 60 hours of AOA Category 1-B for preceptoring may be applied to the 120-hour requirement. Upon receipt of the completed Clinical Performance Evaluation for the rotation, CME credit will be confirmed. Credit for osteopathic physicians is submitted to the AOA on a quarterly basis (April, July, October, January).
For M.D. Physicians:
Preceptor credit will be issued to M.D. physicians upon request. Upon receipt of the completed Clinical Performance Evaluation for the rotation, CME credit will be confirmed and you will receive a letter from the KCOM-CME office indicating the number of hours of credit earned. Please allow 6-8 weeks for processing. M.D. physicians can then submit the CME credit letter to their accrediting agency.

Rotation Details

Continuing medical education credit is hour for hour credit. For example, if you work 40 hours with a student, you will receive 40 CME credit hours. You should only claim the number of hours you spent with the student.

If you are in a physician group and the student spent time with more than one physician, you cannot claim the same hours as another physician.  For example, if there are two physicians in your practice, you cannot both claim 40 hours per week.

Additionally, if you had two students during the same time period, you can not claim double hours. For example, you had two students for one week, you can only claim 40 hours.
